England 1-0 Austria

Another terrible performance by England yeilds a barely deserved 1-0 victory over an Austria side severly lacking in quality.

Frank Lampard's first half penalty gave England the points but, even though England should have had another penalty later in the half, Eriksson's team failed to carve out chances against their lowly opposition.

Once again lacking shape and direction, England also had to do without captain David Beckham when he was sent off for two bookable offences in quick succession.

The fact that neither "bookable offence" was even a foul reflects badly on the match officials, but a fourth poor performance in a row and another inexplicable substiution reflect even worse on Eriksson.

England may qualify for the World Cup tonight if results go their way, but they'll never win it with Eriksson in charge.
