England have secured a place in the last 16 of the World Cup with a 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago.
High on confidence after their famous 0-0 draw with Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago came into the match looking to defend and hold on for a point.
They almost achieved that goal, but two late strikes from Liverpool players Crouch and Gerrard won England a tense victory.
The match was notable for the return of Wayne Rooney, and his introduction along with Aaron Lennon was a turning point in the match.
Rooney's presence lifted the team, but it was Aaron Lennon who influenced the game more, beating his full back with ease it was Lennon's threat that gave Beckham the room to cross for Crouch to head home on 83 minutes.
Gerrard put the icing on the cake in injury time with a superb left-footed strike from outside the box, but the late rally won't paper over the cracks.
England could not break Trinidad & Tobago down, and didn't look like doing it for over an hour of the match, until Lennon and Downing stretched their oposing back four late on. The attacking performance will have to improve if England are to go further in the tournament.
