England 5-1 Kazakhstan

England eventually overcame stubborn opposition at Wembley to record a convincing victory - on the scoreboard at least.

All the goals came in the second half, with three in the last 15 minutes as the Kazakh players tired. Rooney scored a brace, with Rio Ferdinand, Jermain Defoe and an own goal from Kazakh defender Kuchma scoring the other England goals.

But the victory was not as convincing as the scoreline suggests, and at one point a resurgent Kazakh side were just 2-1 down and pressuring England's fragile defence.

The Wembly boo-boys were out in force again as Ashley Cole was unfairly singled out for making a mistake that led to Kukeyev's 68th minute goal for the visitors.

The poor treatment of the full back by his home supporters was disgraceful, and sections of the crowd clearly agreed as they tried to drown out the boos with applause and cheering of their own.

England go into Wednesday's match against Belarus with maximum points from three games.

The booing of Cole was disgusting. I'm embarrased to be an England fan after hearing it. Have those people who booed him never made a mistake them slevse?

Did you know?
A lightning strike in the Democratic Republic of Congo killed all 11 members of one football team while leaving the opposing team in the match untouched. Accusations of witchcraft were made in the aftermath.
