The 1966 World Cup world cup 1966 celebrations Winning the World Cup in 1966 is
still England's biggest achievement to date. Beating arch rivals West Germany at
Wembley made the victory all the sweeter.

result allows England the chance to qualify automatically for the 2002 world cup
but, more importantly, it inflicts a deeply embarrassing defeat on the Germans.

World Cup qualifier.
