Squad Named

Fabio Capello has left Michael Owen out of his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Jimmy Bullard and David Bentley have lost their places in the 23-man squad and Joe Cole and Paul Robinson have been ommited due to injury.

Gerrard, Wright-Phillips, Carson and Crouch all come into the squad.

Croatia 1-4 England

Fabio Capello's England have secured a suprisingly comfortable win over Croatia in Zagreb.

The Croats, who had not lost before in a qualifer in Zagreb, had Robert Kovac sent off and were beaten by a Theo Walcott hat-trick and a Wayne Rooney strike.

England were dominant for large periods of the match (which evoked memories of England's 5-1 win over Germany in Munich in 2001) and thoroughly deserved the win.

Andorra 0-2 England

Joe Cole was the hero scoring two second half goals to secure three points against Andorra in Barcelona.

England played better than in the same fixture 18 months ago, but Andorra went in at the break level just as they did in the Euro 2008 qualifier. Capello made changes at half time, bringing on Joe Cole for Downing and Heskey for Defoe, who was unlucky to be replaced.

Cole made an immediate impact scoring a volley from Lescott's header down on 49 minutes before neatly finishing his second goal six minutes later.

Croatia are next up, and that will be a far greater test.

Jimmy Bullard is a suprise inclusion in Fabio Capello’s squad for the World Cup qualifers against Andorra and Crotia. Peter Crouch and Michael Owen have been left out.

England 2-2 Czech Republic

Joe Cole secured a last minute draw with the Czech Republic at Wembley as John Terry's began his reign as captain under Capello.

England were poor for large parts of the match and were lucky to hold the Czechs. Frank Lampard was a particular target for the frustrated Wembley crowd and was jeered when leaving the pitch on 79 minutes.

Fabio Capello has named his 23-man England squad to face the Czech Republic in a friendly at Wembley on Wednesday night.

Suprisingly, Ashley Young does not feature, but there is a recall for Emile Heskey. Joe Hart also keeps his place in the squad.

England down to 15th

England have slipped six places to 15th in the latest FIFA world rankings. It is England's worst ranking position since 2001, and they are now just one place above Scotland.

Trinidad and Tobago 0-3 England

England secured an easy 3-0 win over minnows Trinidad and Tobago with goals from Gareth Barry and a brace from Jermain Defoe.

The low key match was played by many of England's fringe players as the Chelsea and Man Utd players (except for Ferdinand) stayed at home after their champions league exploits.

Barry, Defoe, Downing and Bentley will feel that they have staked a claim for a first team place after good performances, while Stephen Warnock, Phil Jagielka and Joe Hart all made their debuts.

Beckham Captains Side

David Beckham has been named England captain for Sunday's friendly against Trinidad & Tobago.

England 2-0 USA

England defeat a workman like USA team 2-0 at Wembley with goals from Terry and Gerrard.

There was a general improvement in England's performance, with Gerrard playing particularly well on England's left and linking up well wth Rooney.

"We want to play without fear, with a big show of confidence and in a very English type of spirit" said Capello. "The players won't be fresh like the USA players, whose season is just beginning, but we need to play with spirit and intensity." John Terry will wear the captain's armband.

Training

The England Team trained on Saturday morning at Arsenal's London Colney training ground.

New players on the senior team training ground were Phil Jagielka and the Under-21s David Wheater, Joe Hart, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Tom Huddlestone. There was also another unfamiliar face following the late call-up of Under-21 keeper Joe Lewis.

Capello - "I'll Decide"

England Coach Fabio Capello will have the final say whether Manchester United and Chelsea players will travel with England for the Trinidad & Tobago game.

Nine players involved in the Champions League final are due to report for England on Saturday ahead of Wednesday's match against the USA.

"I'll decide - if I want them to go then they'll go," he told the BBC in his first interview in English.

Rankings Fall

England's European ranking is set to fall after Uefa approved changes to how national coefficients are determined.

Rankings are currently based on qualifying matches only, but future performances in European Championships and World Cups will now be included.

That means England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008 could see them drop from second to sixth.

Beckham Hits 100

David Beckham has become only the fifth player to win 100 caps for England.

France 1-0 England

David Beckham won his 100th cap for England as Franck Ribery's first half penalty defeats Capello's England in their first game away from Wembley.

The match was untidy but even, and England were unlucky to come away without at least a draw.

England 2-1 Switzerland

Fabio Capello's reign as England manager has started with victory over an under strength Swiss side.

Jermain Jenas and Shaun Wright-Phillips scored the goals that secured the win, but Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole and Wayne Rooney were instrumental.

England settled their early nerves with Jenas' 40th minute strike (his first for his country) and enjoyed a comfortable second half, despite Derdiyok's 58th minute equaliser.

Wright-Phillips scored the winner in the 62nd minute after good work from captain Gerrard down the England left.

Overall it was an encouraging start to Capello's England career, though there is a very long way to go to restore lost pride to the three lions badge.

Fabio Capello has named his first 23-man England squad.

David Beckham does not feature but Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor does get a place, along with Ashley Young and David Bentley who form a trio of excting wingers.

Capello Confirmed

Fabio Capello has been confirmed as the new England manager after the details of his contract were finalised with the Football Association.

England 2-3 Croatia

England are out of the European Championships after another poor display.

England were 2-0 down within 14 minutes after Scott Carson's 8th minute mistake and a well worked Croatian move finished off by Ivica Olic 6 minutes later.

And McClaren's team struggled to the break, looking unsure at the back and lacking in ideas going forward.

The second half started better and England were awarded a soft penalty, which Frank Lampard converted, before Peter Crouch equalised with a cool finish from David Beckham's cross.

But that was as good as it got for England. The team sat back, giving a quality Croatian team far too much time and space, and they were punished on 77 minutes when Petric's long range effort floew past Carson.

So England are out, failing to qualify for a major championship for the first time since USA '94. McClaren will probably loose his job. Beckham will probably not make 100 caps and English football has to take a long hard look at itself.

The brightside? Jose Mourinho is still out of work.

Destiny back in our hands

Israel have done England a massive favour by beating Russia 2-1 in Tel Aviv.

Elyaniv Barda and Omer Golan scored Israel's goals, with the winner coming in injury time.

In an unexpected twist, Croatia also lost their penultimate qualifier, going down 2-0 in Macedonia.

The results mean that Croatia have qualified for the finals, and that a draw at Wembley next Wednesday will see England qualify, with Croatia as group winners.

Should England beat Croatia at Wembley, then they will top the qualification group.

Austra 0-1 England

Michael Owen was injured and Peter Crouch scored the winner in a low key friendly in Vienna.

Frank Lampard was back alongside Steven Gerrard in England's midfield, although exactly why the impressive Gareth Barry was dropped for Lampard's return is a mystery.

David Beckham also returned from injury to win his 98th international cap, and it was his corner that Crouch headed home for the only goal of the match.

4,500 fans travelled to the freezing Austrian capital, showing once again that England are easily the best supported team in Europe, but the loyal fans were left cold in a match which offered little in entertainment.

The most significant event of the match, barring Crouch's winner, was an injury to Michael Owen that will keep him out of the Croatia match.

For now, all eyes are on Israel.

Russia 2-1 England

England look unlikely to qualify for the European Championships after going down to two second half goals from Pavluchenko.

In truth, England did not loose their chance of qualification on the artificial turf of Moscow's Luznikhi Stadium, they lost it a year ago with a 0-0 draw against Macedonia.

It is possible that England could still qualify for the finals, but they are reliant on Israel taking at least a point off of Russia next month.

Meanwhile, Sven Goran Eriksson's Manchester City team lie in 3rd place in the Premier League table. What a difference a year makes.

England secure their third 3-0 win in a row with a comprehensive victory over Estonia at Wembley.

The win sets up a crunch game on the plastic pitch in Russia and was secured with first half goals from Wright-Phillips and Rooney, before Rahn put through his own net.

There was injury concern for England as Ashley Cole injured his ankle and is now a doubt for the Russia game.
